Tax avoidance

What are the penalties for tax evasion?

A whole range of penalties exist for tax evasion. The Austrian Fiscal Offences Act describes tax evasion as being equivalent to tax fraud. Both monetary fines and custodial sentences are possible.

How is it possible to make a voluntary admission?

A voluntary admission must be made or sent to the competent tax office immediately. A full and truthful admission must be made. It is best to submit a full tax return to the relevant tax or fiscal offences authority at the same time as making a voluntary admission. The information and supporting documents submitted must clearly show the reduced amount of tax. If the information you provide is less than complete, the risk is higher that you will not escape prosecution.
